My journey as a digital illustrator has been a smoother path compared to my early days in graphic design, largely thanks to the solid foundation in realism drawing and painting training I received from a young age. Starting at 10, I underwent an intensive eight-year training regimen in a strict, traditional Chinese studio school system, synonymous with rigorous and repetitive practice. This method, focused on perfecting a narrow range of hand-drawn skills and subjects for long hours, was aimed at excelling in college admissions. While I have reservations about this system's impact on creative freedom, I can't deny the technical proficiency it instilled in me, which later became instrumental in launching my career in commercial illustration.
Unlike my experience with graphic design, my college years didn't contribute significantly to my illustration skills. As I chose to pursue a career as a digital artist, my focus shifted to mastering various digital tools and software. The pre-college training I received, though demanding, proved to be highly practical and pivotal for my professional development. In line with my approach in design, I continuously strive to refine my skills in digital illustration, learning new programs and techniques to ensure the delivery of the highest quality work to my clients.
Most of the illustrations featured in this portfolio are done for Stupell Industries since 2019, showcases a wide array of digital illustrations intended for wall art decor. Some days, I work on specific requests regarding style and subject, but often, I have the freedom to make what interests me, keeping market trends in mind.
The variety in my work here is something I'm really proud of. From hand-drawn pieces in Procreate to intricate Photoshop edits, vector designs in Illustrator, some 3D creations in Blender, and the most recent AI-assisted art.
